Understanding dōTERRA's essential oils application
With every dōTERRA essential oil that you buy you will see that there are instructions regarding the ways the oil can be used. In every essential oil page in our store you can find a tab saying "Applications". Within that section you will find some colourful letters that have a meaning and that indicate whether, for example, the oil can be used internally or aromatically, etc.
Read up next to understand more about the meaning behind each letter to better understand Applications when purchasing or using a dōTERRA essential oil.
The meaning behind each letter
If the oil that you are about to purchase has the letter:
It indicates that you can use this oil on your diffuser, don't have one? Check our diffusers and enjoy a pleasant atmosphere with the aroma of your favorite oil. It is especially good for use at night, placing the diffuser in your room. Create an atmosphere of tranquility and peace in your home.
Indicates that you can use the essential oil on your skin. dōTERRA is committed to using the best ingredients and extraction processes in its oils so that you can fully and safely benefit from their use on your skin.
Indicates that this oil can be ingested. Essential oils are taken by ingesting 1 drop of the oil in a Veggie Capsule. You can also take 1 drop diluted in 120 ml/4 oz of water. (Read more about quantities on the product page of each oil.)
Helps you understand whether you need to dilute your oil or not.
Can be used with no dilution (You can use it pure, out of the bottle)
If you see this "N" then your oil can be used directly on your skin without any dilution.
Dilute for young or sensitive skin
If you see this letter, it indicates that you should dilute the oil when applying it to people with young or sensitive skin.
Dilute before using topically
Indicates that you have to make a dilution before using it on your skin. When diluting your oil choose a good quality oil like for example Fractionated Coconut Oil.
You should never use essential oils in your eyes or inside the ear canal.
If you experience any redness or irritation after topical use of essential oils, apply a vegetable oil (for example, Fractionated Coconut Oil) to the affected area, as the water does not dilute the essential oils.
Consult your doctor before using essential oils if you are pregnant or under medical care.
